Red Sauce Pasta Recipe
Pasta is an Italian dish which comes in various flavours and is one dish which is truly loved by everyone; be it a children or an adult. Red sauce pasta or pasta with tomato sauce is healthy and delicious too and can be easily made at home for dinner, lunch, and Tiffin as well. Either you can make it with ready-made tomato sauce or you can use tomatoes to give it a tangy flavor of tomato and the bright color; this will make a pasta recipe free from artificial ingredients. Making pasta with tomato sauce isn’t really hard and can be prepared with less preparation. Take a look at this easy red sauce pasta recipe to make at home.

Ingredients for Red Sauce Pasta
- Pasta 2 cups
- oil 2 to 3 tbsp.
- bell pepper finely chopped 2
- onion medium chopped 2
- tomatoes chopped 4
- garlic clove finely chopped 4
- chili flakes 1 tsp.
- oregano 1 tsp.
- basil leaves 1 tsp. finely chopped
Process of making pasta with red tomato sauce
Place a large pot over a medium flame with 3 to 4 cups water and boil it. Add 1 Tsp. oil, 2 cups pasta and salt to taste. Cook pasta until it is just cooked.
Turn off the flame once pasta is cooked and let it cool. Transfer it to a strainer to drain and rinse them under running water. Keep aside to cool down and add 2 tsp. oil to prevent sticking.Now, take 2 bell pepper, 2 medium onion, 4 tomatoes and chop them finely.
On a medium flame, take a non-stick pan and put 1 tbsp. oil. Transfer half chopped onion and bell paper and sauté for 2 minutes. Keep it aside to cool.
In the same pan, sauté chopped tomatoes until they turn mushy. This will take approximately 3 to 4 minutes. Let it cool.
Now, in a blending jar, transfer tomatoes, onion and bell pepper and blend them together to make a puree.
Again, take the same pan and put 2 tbsp. oil. Add 4 finely chopped garlic cloves and 1 Tsp. chili flakes. Fry it till raw aroma of garlic goes away.
Now, add finely chopped onion to it and sauté till it turns golden. As onion turns golden, transfer tomato puree to the pan.
Mix it well with onion and cook puree until it reaches to the desired consistency. After cooking, puree should neither be watery nor too thick.Add 1 tsp. oregano to the puree and mix well.
Add the pasta and toss well to mix it well with puree. At this step, taste to check salt and adjust as needed.
Switch off the flame. Pasta is ready to be served. Before serving you can add 1 Tsp. finely chopped basil leaves and mixes it well. You can serve pasta with red sauce hot or warm. This will taste better even at room temperature too.
Serving tip: Grate some cheese as soon as you switch off the flame to take a pasta at a new level. A red sauce pasta with some cheese will surely be loved by each foodie and they’ll thank you for this delicious Pasta recipe.
Tips and Variations
- If you’re making a pasta for yourself, then you can add red wine to it for color and taste as well.
- Using bell pepper with tomatoes will give a desired color. Else, using only tomatoes will give a more tangy flavour to the sauce.
- If you don’t have bell pepper, you can use capsicum also.
- You can also use shrimps or chicken if you wish to add some healthy options in it.
- Instead of regular, one can choose semolina or wholegrain pasta too. Also, shell pasta, fusilli, penne are some other options.
- For variation, you can use vegetables of your choice.
