Moong Dal Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients for Moong Dal Khichdi
- Rice- ½ cup
- Moong Dal (Chilkha)- 1 and ½ cup
- Salt- To taste
- Cumin Seeds- 1 teaspoon
- Onion- 1 medium sized
- Potato- 1 medium sized
- Turmeric Powder- ½ teaspoon
- Red chili powder- ½ teaspoon
- Water- 6 cups
- Ghee– 2 tablespoon (Clarified Butter
Process of Making Moong Dal Khichdi
First of all, finely chop one medium sized onion and keep it in a bowl.
Then take one medium sized potato and cut it into cubes. The cubes should come up to be ½ a cup. Husk and clean ½ cup rice. After cleaning it keep it aside in a bowl of water.
Then clean and husk 1 and a half-cup of (chilka) moong dal and keep it aside in the rice bowl.After an hour of the rice and chilkha moong dal getting soaked in water.
Take the pressure cooker and put 1 tablespoon of ghee (clarified butter),Add a pinch of asafetida, 1-teaspoon cumin seeds. After the cumin seed starts to crackle the oil is heated up.
Add the chopped onions and fry them until lightest brown.Then add a pinch of salt to it.After this add the chopped potatoes into the pressure cooker.Stir the ingredients inside the pressure cooker well.
Add ½ teaspoon of turmeric powder, ½ teaspoon red chili powder, 1 teaspoon of salt (or according to your taste)Now add the rice and chilka moong dal (drained) into the pressure cooker.Mix them well.
Add 6 cups of water into the pressure cooker and mix them again.Now close the lid. At medium flame let the khichdi boil.
Wait for it for the pressure cooker to whistle 2-3 times.After it switch off the flame and keep the pressure cooker aside for it to cool down at room temperature.
Now open the lid and pour it into a bowl.Stir it well the khichdi should be mushy.
Heat a saucepan put one-tablespoon ghee into it and your khichdi is ready.
Tips and Variations
You can also add beans and tomato according to your preference in the khichdi.
